Unbeaten Skyline raced to a big early lead and held on to beat McKinney Boyd 31-8 on Friday night in the opening round of the Class 5A football playoffs.
The Broncos fell behind 24-0 early in the third quarter but never quit, hanging tough and giving Skyline a good game.
“They’re a good team,” Skyline coach Reginald Samples, speaking of Boyd, told the Dallas Morning News.
Skyline will play DeSoto, a 54-10 winner over A&M Consolidated, in the next round.
As usual, Boyd’s offense was led by the running of Bryan Driskell, who had 125 yards on 29 carries. No back had reached the 100-yard mark against Skyline this season until Friday night. Driskell has more than 2,000 yards rushing this season.
Curtis Ladd scored Boyd’s lone touchdown on a 2-yard run in the third quarter. He also caught a 2-point conversion pass from Garrett Wallace.
