The North Texas Tollway Authority has opened the final two ramps on the Sam Rayburn Tollway/Dallas North Tollway interchange, fully joining the two major toll roads and providing motorists in the Plano and Frisco area with complete access to all of the connectors.
As of 10 p.m. Monday evening, southbound DNT motorists were able to directly access the northeast-bound and southwest-bound SRT main lanes.
With the latest ramp openings, the NTTA will have opened all eight major ramps on the SRT/DNT interchange ahead of schedule.
“The NTTA strives to deliver projects as swiftly as possible, and we are very proud that we will have opened all of the ramps less than two years after starting construction on this important interchange,” said Elizabeth Mow, the NTTA’s interim assistant executive director of project delivery. “We sincerely thank the area businesses, residents and NTTA customers for their patience during our work.”
The traffic flow through and around the interchange on the busy Frisco-Plano border in Collin County is expected to improve now that all ramps are open.
“We expect drivers to save a significant amount of time by using the new direct-connecting ramps from the DNT to both directions of the SRT,” Mow said.
Work on the five-level SRT/DNT interchange began in February 2010.
Crews will continue working to complete remaining tasks. Related construction is expected to continue into 2012. Until that work is completed, crews will continue to close DNT and SRT main lanes and frontage roads. Lane and ramp closures will continue – as needed – each weeknight, during off-peak daytime hours and during the weekends while crews complete final tasks. For a listing of lane and ramp closures, go to the “daily general lane closures” listing at www.NTTA.org or call (214) 224-3030.
As with all construction activities, the scheduled ramp openings are subject to change.
