Some familiar faces are returning to Collin College Friday-Saturday, Nov. 11-12 for the annual Dance Fusion.
Collin College dance alumni Melinda Castro, Melissa (Nagel) DeGroat, Jennifer Dennsion, Philip Elson, Emmy Walker and Nicole Womack will be special performers at this year’s concert held at the John Anthony Theatre located on the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway.
Showtimes are 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11 and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $6 for senior citizens and students.
Dance Fusion 2011 will feature the Collin Dance Ensemble, the resident dance company at Collin College, along with dance companies run by alumni, including Emagination Aerial Dance, Epiphany DanceArts, Philip Elson Dance and Elledanceworks Company.
Emagination Aerial Dance Company is a professional performance and outreach Aerial Arts duo under the direction of Collin College dance alumni Emmy Walker and Travis Moon. Emagination Aerial’s Professional Outreach Program for university and college dance departments puts together residencies and workshops at schools around the country to teach and promote aerial dance.
Aerial dance is an exciting and new art form that is making its mark in the dance world opening up a new realm of creativity with the variety of aerial equipment including silks, trapeze, lyra, hammock, slings, corde lisse, Spanish web and harness work.
Epiphany DanceArts is a dance company that specializes in performances, private lessons, master classes, and artistic outreach. Founded in 2010 by DeGroat, they routinely perform at hospitals, schools, civic centers, and churches to share with others our wealth of experience performing and teaching.
Philip Elson Dance is the creative identity that represents the choreographic and directed work of choreographer and Collin College Alumni Philip Elson. These works encompass live performance as well as dance films. Elson’s work primarily focuses on ideas of the body and its relationship to the cultural forces it experiences. Elson’s independent work has been presented in four regions of the United States and in Berlin, Germany.
The Collin Dance Ensemble, the resident performing company for Collin College, under the direction of Tiffanee Arnold, tours throughout Dallas-Fort Worth performing in local concerts and festivals such as The Dallas Dance Festival, The Fort Worth Dance Festival: Up and Running, Dances at a Gathering at the Eisemann Center, The University of Texas at Dallas, Allen Dance Festival and Dallas’ Dance for the Planet. The dance company attends and performs at the American College Dance Festival annually and has been selected for the Gala Performance at that festival five times. Former residencies include Battleworks Dance Company from New York, Pilobolus Too of the Pilobolus Dance Theatre, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble from Michigan, Elledanceworks Dance Company from Dallas and Taylor 2 of Paul Taylor Dance Company.
In addition to Collin Dance Ensemble, Collin College’s dance program has a strong reputation for excellence in dance education, choreography and performance, propelling students into prestigious university dance programs. The associate of arts degree with electives in dance curriculum includes multiple levels of ballet, modern, jazz, tap, dance appreciation, improvisation and choreography.
