by Michele Stevens Bernard, TSB Staff

What’s not to love about the upcoming weekend?  For one thing, this particular weekend, is the closest weekend to Valentine’s Day (hear that honey?), and, for another, it’s Second Saturday in Downtown McKinney.  Weekend highlights include world famous artists, and musicians, special Valentine’s dances for every age, live theater performances and, lots of places throughout the city to gaze at one another across candle-lit tables.  As an added bonus, I’ll clue you in to which McKinney Hot Spots are offering Valentine’s Day specials, and which McKinney musician has the perfect romantic gift in mind for you and your honey.

Here’s what’s on tap for Friday, February 10th:

The play revolves around two pair of lovers, Beatrice and Benedick and Claudio and Hero and the obstacles Claudio and Hero face in order to unite, while Beatrice and Benedick engage in a “merry war” of the sexes. Tickets are $10.50. Discounts are available for seniors, children and YAG member. To purchase tickets, click here:

The Venue Bar and Grill welcome’s Shane Frame and The Reloaded Band to the stage at 8:30 p.m. For more information call 214-383-3055.

Saturday, February 11th features the following:

Kick off Second Saturday in downtown McKinney with the Laura Moore Fine Art Studios, who brings world-renowned artist Annie Lee back for a 3rd exhibit.  Opening night begins at 7:00 p.m. and goes through 10:00 p.m.  The exhibition, “Annie Lee: A Texas Farewell” features over 18 of her new acrylic paintings focused on the everyday details from years gone by and of solitary figures on the walk of life.  With Will Smith, Bill Cosby and Eddie Murphy listed as but a few of her notable collectors, Lee’s often humorous, satirical style of painting has been termed “Black Americana.” A true treasure of today’s art world, Lee has called Texas home for the past six years, but will be leaving us soon for Las Vegas.  Moore invites the community to join together opening night to give Lee a well deserved thank you, and a Texas-sized sendoff. For more information visit LauraMooreArt.com

While downtown, you’ll also want to drop by to check out the featured artists at Orison’s Fine Art and Framing, and the Garrett Gallery.  Other downtown merchants displaying Second Saturday art include, La Misha, Gregory’s Bistro, the McKinney Wine Merchant, Rick’s Chophouse, Grotto Live, Spoons Café and Gather.

For the Seniors among us, The Chateau presents a Valentine’s Dinner and Dance from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  You are invited to join their community for holiday dancing and chef-prepared treats.  Please RSVP to 972-347-4288 by Friday, February 10th. Located at 5701 Virginia Parkway, you can learn more about it at ChateauSeniorLiving.com

For the 3rd through 6th grade crowd, Joe Farmer Rec Center in Allen is the place to be as they present Saturday Night Rec-N-Roll from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  Supervised dancing to music provided by a DJ, dodge ball, pool, foosball, table tennis, and air hockey are just a partial list of the fun to be had.  Plus, the night will be punctuated with contests and great prizes. Texas radio favorite No Justice plays Hanks Texas Grill Saturday night. With seven Top 10’s and a pair of Number One hits in only a four-year span, you’ll want to take advantage of this fun opportunity to see them up close and personal.  Showtime is 10:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 advance and $12 at the door.

Still looking for a one-of-a-kind Valentine’s gift for the one you love?  Guitarist John Wynn, has two free tickets to the upcoming concert he is doing with world-renowned classical guitarist Carlo Pezzimenti.  The concert, “Classic Meets Contemporary-A Celebration of the Guitar,” takes place on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th at Frisco’s Black Box Theater.  Be the first to contact John to score this uber-cool gift sure to make your honey swoon.

For your convenience (are you still with me honey?), here is a list of links to some of my other favorite McKinney Hot Spots that are nice date night locales:

For Downtown Ambiance you really can’t beat Rick’s Chophouse, Louisiana Street Grill, or Square Burger.  I’m also a fan of the wineries, Landon’s and Lone Star Wine Cellars.  For downtown Italian vibe go for Sauce on the Square or Ruggeri’s Restaurant

My other favorite Italian eateries include Italian Garden (BYOB), and Amato’s in west McKinney, or Sicily’s (BYOB) in the northeast part of the city.  I love them all.

For romance and Thai try either Thai Noodle Wave or Silk Road.  Both have great food and beautiful ambiance.

If Mexican cuisine is what your honey craves, San Miguel’s hospitality and attention, not to mention their top-shelf margaritas, is hard to beat.

Finally, If you want a lot of fun with your food, Top Golf in Allen is my new favorite fun place to be. Think Golf meets Bowling meets Bar meets Grill.  Check it out if you’re in a playful date mood.

So those are my latest fave date night haunts and events.  Did I miss any?  Did I miss yours?  If so, be sure to list it in the Comments Section.  Then, click quick to the TSB Events calendar and add it to the mix.  It might be just the thing some would be Romeo or Juliette is searching for.  Whatever or wherever you choose to do or be, here’s wishing you and the one’s you love a heart-filled, happy and safe weekend of fun. Carpe Diem Y’all, Michele
