Entertainment Buzz: Weekend Update For August 9-12

Submitted By The McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau

Looking for weekend entertainment in McKinney? Look no further. Than below …

Return To Calamity Gulch (Aug. 10-12)

The McKinney Repertory Theatre loves a good melodrama, so much so, they’re doing it again this summer.  In “Return To Calamity Gulch,” the audience interacts with the action on stage by throwing popcorn, booing at the villain and cheering for the hero, all-the-while-being accompanied by sound effects from the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ in the MPAC Courtroom Theater.   For show times and tickets, click here.

Boyd Drum-A-Thon (Aug. 10-11)

McKinney Boyd High School drum line holds its annual Drum-A-Thon from 6 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, Aug. 11 at Boyd High School, 600 N. Lake Forest Dr.  Enjoy the sounds of marimbas, tenors, bass drums, snares, cymbals, and more as percussion members play for 18 straight hours.  the event is free, but donations are welcome and encouraged as this drum line participates in this teambuilding and fundraising event.  Drum-A-Thon kicks off Friday, Aug. 10 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on the downtown square.

Second Saturday (Aug. 11)

Plenty of melodrama will be going on at MPAC (see above), but the rest of the square will be filled with people relaxing and hanging out with friends and family while enjoying art, music, great food, and some late shopping during downtown McKinney’s monthly Second Saturday on the Square.  Below are the art gallery exhibit openings, live music and other happenings on the square during this Saturday night event.  Have questions about this event?  Call 972-547-2661.
