Experience an evening on McKinney’s downtown square as you explore local art galleries, listen to great local and regional talent, and enjoy dinner at one of the area’s best eateries. Many establishments in Downtown McKinney will keep their doors open from 7-10 p.m.. Activities include art exhibit openings, live music and more. Read on to learn about the featured artists, musicians and entertainment options for this special weekend of fun.
Second Saturday Fun
Second Saturday Jam Session: McKinney Guitar Studio hosts a free evening of music with local singers, songwriters and acoustic musicians. 7-11 p.m..; 109-1/2 W. Virginia.
Magic Show: Main Street Magic & Fun Company hosts an evening of magic. Both shows are family friendly. Tickets are $10 each; reservations required to 214-274-7802.
Special Market Dinner: Patina Green Home & Market closes its doors on Second Saturday night to host these special dinners on their front patio. the five-course dinners are by reservation only to 972-548-9141. Please note that this event is sold out, but we wanted to let you know about it so you can mark your calendars for April 1st. Why? Because that is the day you need to call to get a shot at a seat at the table in May! Yes. May!
Leaping Leprechauns Race (Saturday)
Participants will be “wearing o’ the green” so come decked out in your St. Patrick’s finery! All 1Kers and kids under 9 will receive a medal. Prizes, music, food and lots of FUN! Workshops And Classes (Thursday & Saturday)
Folks in the McKinney arts community are always sharing their talents through classes and workshops. Here are a couple coming up this week:
Crocheted Jewelry Class (Thursday, 7 p.m.) at Diggin’ It (507 N. Tennessee): Jewelry artist, Shawn Payne, will show you how to create an original crocheted lariat necklace. You’ll use hemp and natural stones in this earthy, organic project. Come join the fun and leave with a new piece of jewelry. Thursday, 7p.m. Space is limited; call to reserve a spot. 469-952-3446.
Guitar Workshop (Saturday, 10 a.m.): During the Working Persons Guide to Playing Guitar, learn about notation styles, chords, and other things that make music fun.This workshop is perfect for the person that wants to learn the most basic things about playing the guitar but does not have the time for a series of formal lessons. $30 per person. Bird Walk (Saturday)
These seasonal monthly bird walks (held the second Saturday each month Sept.-May) help beginning and intermediate birders with bird spotting and identification techniques.
