Entertainment Buzz: Back To Jack’s

by Michele Stevens Bernard

Hey McKinney!  Grab your cell phone and beat a path to Jack’s Pub tonight where we will once again gather around Jack’s giant television screen to root on our hometown sweetheart Hollie Cavanagh.  Hollie continues to make McKinney proud, as she wows American Idol fans everywhere with her powerful voice.  Now in the top nine, Hollie needs our support more than ever.  Let’s do our part to keep her alive as the competition heats up.

I recently had the opportunity to correspond with Hollie’s big brother Luke.  Luke asked me to convey to you the following, “Hollie, myself and our family are so humbled and grateful for the tremendous amount of support McKinney has shown Hollie.  Without the watch parties, and your voting, who knows if Hollie would have made it this far.”  American Idol airs on FOX at 7:00 p.m. So even if you’re unable to join us, be sure to tune in tonight McKinney, then vote, vote, vote!

While I’m on the subject of our Watch Parties, a big shout out to Jack’s Pub for going the extra mile to make them extra fun!  From the special Hollie-centric drink and food specials and pre-show entertainment, to the post-show karaoke fun we enjoy while voting, our watch parties just keep getting better each week.  Thank you! Jack’s Pub is located at 4150 Eldorado Parkway.

If this coming weekend is as nice as they predict it will be, it will be a perfect weekend to enjoy the day at either the Heard Natural Science Museum or Meyers Park.  While the Heard features the Animal Superheroes Exhibit, Meyer’s Park hosts he greater Collin Kennel Club Dog Show.  For more information about the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, call 972-562-5566.  For dog show scoop, go to

As far as nightlife is concerned, I see any number of fun entertainment options around town.  On Friday night, I for one will be catching one of Indie Music Review Mag’s “Top 25 Women of Indie”, Crystal Yates, at Lone Star Wine Cellars.  Be sure to check out her video below.  On Saturday, I’ll be attending The McKinney Community Band presentation of “Springtime for Wind Band”.  This free concert will take place Saturday, March 31st, at the McKinney Performing Arts Center in the Courtroom Theater.  Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

Also downtown this weekend, The Grand Bar welcomes Tyla Taylor on Friday and JR Byrd on Saturday, while Grotto hosts Brianna Ruelas, Friday, and Soma Lab on Saturday.  Live entertainment can also be found at The Cadillac Pizza Pub, Landon Winery, Spoon’s Café, and Café Malaga.

To get your country fix on, Hank’s is the place.  John David Kent takes the stage on Friday, and Jesse Dayton plays Saturday.

So there you have it, McKinney, this week’s entertainment buzz.  How will you have fun this weekend?

Don’t see your event listed?  Feel free to add it to the comments section below and to the community calendar.
