Let’s have a show of hands: how many of you got your weekend started a tad bit early? I thought so. What with the mid-week parades, barbeque, concerts and things that go boom in the night, I don’t blame you if your schedule is a bit off, but don’t be fooled. There is still plenty of weekend left, and if I don’t say so myself, it’s a loverly weekend to take in a musical.
McKinney Summer Musicals’ much anticipated presentation of My Fair Lady is upon us. With the book and lyrics written by Alan Jay Lerner and music written by Frederick Loewe, My Fair Lady has us follow Eliza Doolittle as she moves from Cockney flower girl to proper lady under the tutelage of phoneticist, Professor Henry Higgins. Much loved songs such as “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “On The Street Where You Live” are but a couple of tunes we can look forward to in what is described as “the [musical] standard by which all other musicals are measured.”
My Fair Lady opens July 7-8 and plays through July 12-15 at the McKinney Boyd High School Auditorium. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. for July 7 and July 12-14 with 2 p.m. matinees on July 8 and July 15. Purchase tickets now by clicking here.
Also on the music scene this weekend, Hank’s Texas Grill brings Micky and The Motorcars to the stage on Friday, July 6, with Corb Lund (pictured) playing Saturday, July 7. Grab tickets to either of these shows by clicking here.
For those heading downtown this weekend, here’s a run-down of who else you’ll find gracing McKinney stages:
- Cadillac Pub: Jimmy Wallace and The Stratoblasters (Fri. July 6), Maylee Thomas Band (Sat., July 7)
- Grotto Live: Soma Lab (Fri., July 6), Missing 3 (Sat., July 7)
- Landon’s Winery: Dueling Mikes (Fri., July 6), Carolyn Jones (Sat., July 7)
- Lone Star Wine Cellars: Ryan Michael Galloway (Fri., July 6), Steve Rose (Sat., July 7)
See? I told you there was more weekend to be had! Now, if that isn’t enough to keep you busy for the next few days, then, be sure to see what else is going on by checking out the Town Square Buzz Community Calendar. Feel free to add your own events to the mix while you’re there.
