If you live in Eldorado Heights, be on the look out for a bag at your front door.
No, this bag will not be following a doorbell ring, or sitting on your porch flaming, this is a bag to put a few cans in to help out our community during the “Home for the Holidays” canned Food Drive, October 16-21, 2011.
Beginning on Friday, October 8, 2011, bags will be distributed throughout the community of Eldorado Heights with a letter explaining the Canned Food Drive to benefit the McKinney Food Pantry. At a time when so many families are struggling, and over 15% of our community is living in poverty, this is a great opporunity to give a little before getting busy with holiday plans. While going through your pantry, making sure you have everything for your holiday baking and meals, keep an eye out for any extras you may have.
“If we could get at least two cans from each house in Eldorado Heights we would have almost 1000 cans to take to the Food Bank”, said CJ Oakes, realtor and organizer of the event.
Residents just need to place non-perishable, canned food items into the bags provided, and place them outside their front door. Pick ups will begin on October 16, and will continue through October 21.
If you don’t live in Eldorado Heights, and you would like to contribute, you can contact CJ Oakes at firstname.lastname@example.org, and arrangments will be happily made to pick up your donation.
“We hope to take at least 1000 cans to the food bank on the 21st”, said Oakes.
With the success of this drive, plans are being made to make this an annual event. Special thanks to Market Street for donating bags to collect the cans! For any questions regarding the “Home for the Holidays” Canned Food Drive, please contact CJ Oakes at 972-529-0868 or at email@example.com.
