The City of McKinney is partnering again with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office to participate in the national Drug Enforcement Administration’s Drug Take-Back event Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event takes place at the City of McKinney Environmental Services Building, 1550 S. College St. Building D.
The event provides a free, anonymous opportunity to safely dispose of all unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.
Medications should be left in their original containers and any identifying information should be removed from the prescription label. Loose medication can also be placed directly in the disposal box. Intravenous solutions and syringes will not be accepted.
Items that are accepted:
- Over the counter pills
- Liquid medications
- Pet medicine
Items that are not accepted:
- Needles and sharps
- Mercury (thermometers)
- Chemotherapy/radioactive substances
- Oxygen containers
- Pressurized containers
- Illicit drugs
Directional signs for the event will be located at the intersections of College St. at Eldorado and Wilson Creek Parkways. Participants will drive in at the entrance, hand over medications to a uniformed officer and circle out of the parking lot.
This is the fourth drug take-back event to be held by the city. Since 2013, more than 1,500 lbs. of prescription drugs have been collected.
