Downtown McKinney Prepares for a Ghostly Halloween

McKinney Main Street invites you to come out Halloween evening from 4-6 p.m. for the annual favorite Scare on the Square Halloween event. Historic Downtown McKinney will close streets to allow trick-or-treaters safe crossings as they visit shops for goodies. Along with gathering treats, participants can enjoy fun activities for kids of all ages. Admission is free, and parking can be found throughout the Historic Downtown area.

Don’t miss the McTown Klownz who will be on site at the event, and who will host an encore performance of “Safety Shopping Network” inside the courtroom theater at the McKinney Performing Art Center (MPAC) starting at 6:30 p.m. McKinney Main Street also partners with 3E to host a food drive to benefit the Food Pantry. Residents are encouraged to drop off canned food during the event.

Back by popular demand this year is the “Be Green on Halloween” costume contest. The city’s Office of Environmental Stewardship (OES) encourages residents to make their own costume by using items that are already in your house. To enter for a chance to win prizes, just stop by the OES table during Scare on the Square to sign up.

New this year is downtown McKinney’s very own Pumpkin Patch located on the grounds of MPAC. The Pumpkin Patch, owned and operated by Creative by Nature, is open Friday through Sunday each weekend in October.

Staring Friday, Oct. 14, visitors can find more than unique gifts and the latest fashions in Downtown McKinney. Twenty-four hidden cut-out ghosts are waiting to found throughout Historic Downtown McKinney. Find them all and fill out a form, available at participating businesses downtown. Completed forms are to be submitted to the MPAC Administrative Office (111 N. Tennessee) through Oct. 31 to be entered into a drawing to receive one of four $250 shopping sprees in downtown. No purchase necessary, and forms must be completed by an adult eighteen years or older.
