A downtown McKinney merchant had her wallet stolen from behind the counter Tuesday, losing her credit and debit cards and a large sum of cash. This was from a very small space and she noticed it late in the day, just before closing. McKinney Police say these people are usually working in pairs and are very good at distracting employees.
In the aftermath, McKinney Police have reminded downtown merchants of an increase in criminal activity that usually takes place during the summer months. With increased shoppers downtown, it is very important that merchants and their employees be extra mindful of the criminal element that may frequent our downtown shops. They are reminded to report anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. They are encouraged to try to obtain as much information about their physical characteristics, clothing and direction of travel upon leaving their store. If they leave in a vehicle, make, model, color and license plate number if possible.
