The start of dove hunting season on Saturday, Sept. 1, means shots could be heard inside city limits. State law restricts hunting to areas of land greater than 10 acres, but allows dove hunting inside the city limits. Hunters must avoid shooting less than 1,000 feet from the property line of a public tract of land, school, hospital, or commercial day-care facility and at least 150 feet from a residence or occupied building.
Hunters must fire their weapons in a safe manner so projectiles do not cross the property line. All hunters should have a Texas Hunting License with a Migratory Bird Stamp.
If you hear gun shots and are concerned that hunters may be violating the hunting restrictions, call the police non-emergency line 972-547-2700.
