Halloween in McKinney is especially thrilling, chilling and exciting with fun, free events like Ghouls on the Lawn. The event, hosted by Tucker Hill and presented by the McKinney Performing Arts Center, takes place this year on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 5 – 9 p.m. For the past three years, the free event has grown from 1,500 attendees to almost 4,000 attendees in 2010.
“Ghouls on the Lawn is a safe, fun community event for the entire family. It also provides an ideal opportunity to showcase some of our local arts groups in a beautiful residential setting,” said Ty Lake, Main Street Director.
Ghouls on the Lawn this year features performances and participation by the McKinney Repertory Theater, Young Actors Guild and Main Street Magic & Fun Company. Attendees can also expect improvements with parking and trick-or-treating, and even a few new activities. All activities and performances, listed below, are family friendly.
Trick-or-treating (from 5 – 7 p.m. only)
Ghost stories and marshmallows around the fire pit
Ghoulish party pics
Music and dancing
A large movie screen featuring the World Series game and…
A live performance of Harry Potter’s “Dance of the Dementors” every hour on the hour!
Tucker Hill also welcomes North Texas Food Bank as a beneficiary of Ghouls on the Lawn this year. Ghouls on the Lawn continues to be a free event, and North Texas Food Bank will be on-site to accept canned food donations at the event entrances.
“We’re really excited to add another charitable layer to Ghouls on the Lawn this year,” said Mary Day, director of marketing at Tucker Hill. “North Texas Food Bank is a superb organization, and if each family attending brings a can or two of food to the event we can really work towards making North Texas a hunger-free community! Coupled with the spirit of the event – the joy of costumed children enchanted with everything Ghouls on the Lawn offers – we couldn’t think of a better new partnership to initiate.”
In addition to all of the programming, residents of Tucker Hill will be competing in a community-wide Halloween Home Decorating Contest. The architecturally rich streetscape of this eclectic community will be transformed into an eerie, surprise-filled neighborhood adorned with lights, decorations and ornaments of the season. Open spaces such as the famously frightening Founder’s Square will become gathering spots for kids and their families and make great opportunities to capture your ghouls in their costumes.
