Dallas Morning News Publisher to Speak at Chamber Luncheon

Learn why Jim Moroney was recently named chairman of the Newspaper Association of America, an organization representing 2,000 newspapers and their multiplatform businesses throughout the United States and Canada.

The McKinney Chamber of Commerce’s CEO Series Luncheon on April 24 will focus on media and technology, featuring a keynote address by Moroney, the publisher and CEO of the fifth-largest newspaper in the United States.

James M. Moroney III, who goes by Jim, has served as publisher and chief executive officer of The Dallas Morning News since June 2001.

As first-in-command of a newspaper in its 126th year of operation, Moroney knows media and technology–both print and online products. The newspaper’s circulation Monday through Friday is 698,667 copies, while the weekend circulation is 375,100 copies. The number of readers who visit, the newspaper’s online site, is impressive:

   — 29.3 million page views per month
   — 3.9 million monthly unique visitors
   —  8 million total visits per month
   —  Almost 8.5 million home page views
   —  3.5 minutes per visit

Moroney serves on A. H. Belo’s Management Committee, and he served as president of Belo Interactive, Inc. from its inception in May 1999 until 2001. He also was responsible for Belo’s television stations from 1997 to 1999.

In addition to his work at the paper, Moroney serves on various boards throughout the community. Moroney graduated from Stanford University in 1978 and earned his M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983. He’s been married to Barbara for 28 years and has five children.

Among the topics Moroney will discuss April 24 is how journalism has changed–and is changing–to keep up with technology, and why print products are still relevant. He will also discuss how tech-savvy Collin County is compared to other areas in the D-FW area.

During the event, the Chamber will launch several new technology initiatives: the redesigned Chamber website, a new digital presence to complement McKinney Magazine, and a mobile app to bridge these two entities. In addition, mobile users will have access to Chamber member businesses as well as current McKinney news and events.
