Crime Alert: MPD Warns of Rise in Burglaries

The McKinney Police Department is issuing a “Crime Alert” regarding both residential and commercial burglaries.

The alert is being issued as result of a recent spike in burglaries, 81 residential and 38 commercial, which have
occurred from October 1, 2011 through November 28, 2011. In most cases, forced entry has been made through doors and windows located on the front side of homes and businesses.

More specifically related to commercial burglaries, suspects are using “Smash and Grab” tactics where front doors and windows are being shattered and expensive merchandise, particularly flat screen televisions, in close proximity and in plain view are being stolen.

Residents are encouraged to secure all residences and businesses in their absence, and to conduct security surveys, update locks, lighting, and alarms when needed. Residents are also asked to report all suspicious activities and/or suspicious individuals, to include information regarding any criminal offenses to the McKinney Police Department at 972.547.2828.
