A benefit concert and silent auction to raise money for the Collin County Fallen Warrior Portrait Project will be held Saturday, October 19 from 6 to 10 PM, at Orison’s Art Gallery, on the south side of the square at 110 E. Louisiana Street in downtown McKinney. Original Texas music will be performed by national recording artist RD Foster and Mike “Six Strings” Sanchez of the Red River Surfers, along with singer/songwriter Paul Gorman and friends. Tickets are $20 per person or $30 per couple and can be purchased at the door. The ticket price includes beer, wine and snacks. Auction items at the present include music memorabilia, autographed books, ladies handbags, art work, with more items coming daily.
The Collin County Fallen Warriors Portrait Project, sponsored by American Legion Bill Bryan Post 110 of the, will place on permanent public display at the Collin County Courthouse, portraits of local men who have died in service to our nation. Each of the initial portraits has been created by McKinney artist, Colin Kimball, a United States Air Force veteran who donates his time and talents to the project. The initial induction will include five beautifully framed portraits of heroes whose names are listed on the Wall of Honor at the Collin County Veterans Memorial Park in McKinney. The initial honorees are: Charles O. Jeanes from WWII, Charles “Bill” Bryan and Russell Steindam, recipient of the Medal of Honor, from the Vietnam War; and Johnny Craver and Peter Burks who were killed in Iraq. The project will be an on-going process with more portraits to be added annually. Dedication ceremonies at the courthouse are planned for Veterans Day, November 11, 2013, at 11:00 am.
