Temperatures may be skyrocketing, but one thing some at-risk McKinney residents won’t have to sweat over this summer is how to pay their electricity bills. Thanks to a partnership between Community Lifeline Center and TXU Energy, low-income customers will be able to find bill-payment assistance through the TXU Energy Aid program.
In the 2nd quarter of 2012, TXU Energy provided Community Lifeline Center with approximately $16,400 to help low-income customers in need of temporary bill-payment assistance through its TXU Energy Aid program. The program, which celebrates its 29th anniversary this year, is the largest bill-payment assistance program among electricity companies in the nation. Since 1983, the program has provided more than $72 million in bill-payment assistance, helping more than 415,000 valued customers.
Christine Hockin-Boyd, executive director of Community Lifeline Center, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization and thanked TXU Energy for its contribution.
“We are thankful for TXU Energy’s support and involvement in our community,” said Christine Hockin-Boyd. “This donation means a lot to our community, the clients we serve and Community Lifeline Center.”
The $16,400 contribution is a combination of customer and employee donations from the McKinney community. For every $1 donated, TXU Energy contributes approximately $5 and returns 100 percent of the funds to the local community in which it was given.
“We believe in giving back to organizations that exist to make life a better place for those in need of assistance. As a result, we are able to be there for our customers when they need us most,” said Kim Campbell, senior manager of customer advocacy for TXU Energy. “Our TXU Energy Aid program has been our way of helping our customers, and we are privileged to work with such an outstanding agency like Community Lifeline Center.”
TXU Energy customers who want to make a contribution to help others in their community can complete the information on the front of their monthly bill or send an email. One-time contributions are accepted from anyone or customers can make a recurring pledge to the TXU Energy Aid program by completing the information on the back of their monthly bill.
“We have enjoyed working with such a committed company like TXU Energy,” said Christine Hockin-Boyd. “As a result of our partnership, we are able to do more than we could have imagined for this community.”
