Judge Ray Wheless, a Collin County District Judge, filed his petition with the Republican Party of Texas last Thursday as a candidate for the Republican nomination as Judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 2. The seat is currently held by Judge Larry Meyers, who after twenty years as a Republican on Texas’ highest criminal court, switched to the Democratic Party in 2014. Judge Meyers is currently the only state wide Democrat office holder in Texas.
Judge Wheless is endorsed by a long and impressive list of Texas’ top conservative leaders and organizations, including the Texas Home School Coalition Association, Cathie Adams, President of Texas Eagle Forum and former Chair of the Republican Party of Texas, Tom Pauken, former Chair of the Republican Party of Texas, Kelly Shackelford , Craig Enoch, former Texas Supreme Court Justice and Sue Holland, former Judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
“I love being a judge in Collin County, but I want to serve all Texans at the appellate level.” said Wheless. “I offer Texans a candidate with fifteen years of broad judicial experience and thirty-six years of broad legal experience to help decide the most complex criminal cases in Texas. Texans want conservatives on their highest appellate courts and my conservative endorsements speak for themselves.” Wheless is double Board Certified, is AV rated and currently serves as the Chairman of the Specialized Courts Advisory Council to Governor Greg Abbott.
Wheless adds, “As an appellate judge on Texas’ highest criminal court, I will uphold the plain language of the U.S. and Texas Constitutions as intended by our forefathers. I will fully participate in all opinions and publicize my views about the issues that come before me. My judicial philosophy is that of a conservative and my rulings and opinions will reflect that.”
Judge Wheless has been married to Cyndi Wheless for twenty seven years and they have two sons, Ryan and Dylan. “I have the full support of my family behind me for which I am very grateful.”
The primary will be held on March 1, 2016, with the election on November 8, 2016.
