City Officials Encourage the Use of Alternate Parking for Dog Park Opening

By Ben Lane, TSB Staff

McKinney’s new 2-acre dog park is set to open at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22. The park is located at the new Bonnie Wenk Park (3050 Virginia Parkway). Mayor Brian Loughmiller will be on hand to conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The park will stay open on Friday night until 11:00 p.m. and then re-open Saturday at dawn. Its operating rules were approved by City Council on Tuesday night, so if you missed that story please click here.

Because the rest of the park is still under construction, there are currently 48 parking spots at Bonnie Wenk Park. If the onsite parking spots are full, city officials encourage ceremony attendees use the alternate parking locations designated by the city.

The off-site alternate parking locations are:

Al Ruschhaupt Park (2701 Northbrook Drive) – Access the trail and walk on the hike and bike trail North to the dog park

Cockrill Middle School (1351 N. Hardin Road) – Access the hike and bike trail and walk South into the park.
