McKINNEY, Texas (Oct. 9, 2015) – The City of McKinney encourages residents to plant trees with its annual Share the Shade event in celebration of Texas Arbor Day on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. Share the Shade takes place on the east lawn of the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee St.
Residents can share the shade by receiving one of 100 trees given away on a first-come, first-served basis at the event. There will be 50 lacebark elm trees and 50 Chinquapin oak trees. Trees are limited to one per household. A valid driver’s license or identification with a McKinney address is required.
“Trees provide shade for homes, remove air pollutants, provide a home for wildlife and so much more,” said Emily Braht, McKinneyLandscape Architect/Arborist. “They are important for more than aesthetic reasons. Trees are vital for sustainable community growth, economic vitality, and public health.”
