Hey peeps, I’ve missed our time together, so here’s the latest poop around town!
Rumor has it that the Lazy Lizard Lounge, coming to downtown McKinney on S. Tennessee St., is bound to be some eye candy that will get your adrenaline pumping upon entering the door with its green and purple color scheme. Can’t wait till the doors to this place open so we can all check it out. Y’all heard about this place? Sounds so gnarly, I’m diggin’ it!
A foodie friend put a bug in my ear about another new shop on north Kentucky St. in downtown McKinney; Kitchenwares on the Square, so I had to check it out for myself. If you love to cook, or want to make life easier (or need a cool wedding or shower gift) run right down town to grab everything from Le Creuset cast iron cookware, to the coolest cookie cutter shapes, to the largest choice of tongs that I’ve personally ever seen in one place (especially since the closest thing I do to cooking is Cheerios with milk – or popcorn in the air popper).
I’m told the owner passes on costs that are as good as at any big box retailer, which is music to my ears if I need a gift of some kind or some fancy kitchen gadgets to look like I’ve learned something from the Food Network just in case company opens a draw in my kitchen!
In my opinion, Nan Lee Jewelry Boutique makes a cool addition to the downtown shopping scene. Stylin’ jewelry that rocks a great price point makes it easy shoppers to walk in and walk out with a wardrobe update that won’t break the bank. BTW, love that new sign, Nancy! Moving from Adriatica to downtown should certainly give the shop more foot traffic.
A new Italian place, Ruggeri’s, of staple in Dallas at Royal Lane and Preston, is opening in the spot where Mama Emelia’s previously was. Known for their “authentic” Italian cuisine, I’ve heard great things about this place from long time area residents. A new place for Chow Hound to visit! Since I have not personally dined there, I’ll have to rely on comments from readers on this one!
Speaking of new food spots, Rosa’s Cafe has opened south of Stonebridge Dr., at 12275 Custer Rd. Heard that it’s a little more upscale than Taco Bell and they make to die for tortillas on location. Must get by there next time I have that taco craving.
Do all good things have to come to an end? Sadly, just heard yesterday that our long time (21 years to be exact) Asst. Fire Chief, Frank Roma, will be retiring soon. Not sure exactly when but sounds like before end of this year. OMG, what will our city be like without the iconic face of our fire department? Although I never got the chance to get to know him personally, I will miss the sight of him in uniform at formal city ceremonies.
