Chatterbox: The Lowdown Around Town – Beware, Break-ins on Increase

I hope y’all had the most marvelous Thanksgiving and welcome back to those of you who traveled out of town during the past week!

Now it’s time for some serious shopping and since I didn’t have time for shopping on Black Friday, guess it’s time to hit the keyboard and participate in Cyber Monday (or Cyber Monday Madness!) Wonder what’s on your list this year? I need some ideas!

I hate to report this but, beware Chatty Cathy readers …break-ins have been on the rise around town. Word has it (from several reliable sources who wish to remain anonymous) that there have been numerous break-ins in the middle of the day in the historic district. Neighbors witnessed what they thought was suspicious behavior – men seen hauling electronics out of a home in the neighborhood and putting them in a van – no boxes in sight. The police were contacted and sure enough, the home had been burglarized. Gnarly!

Another home in Stonebridge Ranch was also hit the weekend before Thanksgiving, so as the McKinney Police Department advises, step up your security precautions, peeps.

On a more positive news front, Ruggeri’s Ristorante, 119 W. Virginia, in downtown McKinney is open!  Open on Sunday for brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and nightly from 5 to 9:30 p.m., Ruggeri’s offers classic Italian fare – pasta, steak, veal and seafood. I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t wait to sample it! For reservations:  (972)547-4222.

Another new shop, Goodies Texas, in the former Smith Drug Co. location on Tennessee Street is also open just in time for holiday shopping. Filled with toys and good old fashioned candy, including a personal Chatty Cathy fav, Mallo Cups, it’s just good old fashioned fun! Check it out and let me know what you think!

Sadly, The Sample Shop, on Louisiana St. in downtown McKinney, will be closing in a few weeks, as will Saxby’s Coffee shop on  2741 Virginia Pkwy. Hate to see both of these establishments go! Saxby’s was always a fine place to parlay or hook up with the friends, especially those friendquaintances – you know, the people who are somewhere between actual friends and acquaintances.
