McKinney Boyd’s early season struggles continued Friday night, with the Broncos falling to Rockwall 34-14 Friday night at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium. As a result, Boyd’s record dropped to 1-3.
While the stats were comparatively even – 313 total yards of offense for Rockwall versus Boyd’s 300 – Boyd committed 11 penalties for 104 yards.
Senior quarterback Curtis Ladd threw for 184 yards on 15 completions with two interceptions, and junior running back Dedrick Scrivens rushed for 79 yards on 22 carries.
Although not compiling much offense in the first half, Boyd was in striking distance, trailing 13-0 going into the half.
Boyd, however, allowed 21 points in the second half, and two late touchdowns by Steven Driskell and Adam Brown, who returned an interception for a touchdown, were not enough to get the Broncos back in the game.
Boyd will return to Ron Poe Stadium next week for its homecoming matchup with Lewisville. It will be Boyd’s final non-district game before traveling to Plano West for its first district game Oct. 11.
