Everything about it was a great night for baseball — clear, 70 degrees, beautiful stadium at Duncanville.
And then, of course, the fact that McKinney Boyd dominated Temple 7-1 Thursday night to take a 1-0 lead in the 5A Area Round best-of-three series.
Game 2 is Friday night at 7 and Game 3, if necessary, would be Saturday at 5. All games are being held at Duncanville.
Broncos pitcher Michael Ricchi got the win, pitching 6 1/3 innings. Closer Alex Bruu got the final two outs, including striking out Temple’s Cameron Dodd to end the game.
The Broncos scored one in the first and four in the top of the second to lead 5-0. They cruised, and made it look easy from there.
Trevor Bocian scored Boyd’s first run on Blake Douglas’ sacrifice fly. That got it all started.
Boyd had 10 hits, including a Shane Sharkey double and nine singles. Russell Williams had three singles and David Jasinski two, to go with singles from Evan Williams, Blake Douglas, Garrett Wallace and Jake Laster.
Temple pitcher Marshall Worley, a senior, pitched all seven innings and took the loss.
