Need a haircut? Roosters Grooming Center in McKinney is collecting teddy bears in preparation for the 19th Annual Teddy Bear Motorcycle Ride on Nov. 6, 2011. Anyone who brings in a stuffed bear, or any new stuffed animal for that matter, between now and Nov. 5 will get $5.00 off their haircut.
The ride, organized by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County, expects more than 1200 riders to strap on some 2000 bears to their bikes at IKEA in Frisco and ride to Duke’s Roadhouse in Plano.
Why the spectacle? To raise awareness for neglected and abused children in our area. CACC stated that last year alone, there were 4,098 reports of child abuse in Collin County, averaging over 11 reports each day.
“The teddy bears are used to comfort children during stressful situations,” said Linda Alter, Roosters’ owner. “Hospitals, police, social workers…they all use the stuffed animals to help brighten a child’s day.
Roosters is located at the NE corner of 75 and Eldorado Parkway in the Genghis Grill shopping plaza.
Report suspect child abuse to 1-800-252-5400 or 911. To have even a single child victimized by abuse is too many. If we don’t protect our children, who will?
