McKinney High 2, Prosper 0: In blustery Prosper Friday night, the McKinney Lions (16-0-1, 9-0-0 dist. 17) extended their undefeated season well into a third month with their 16th win in a row, a 2-0 victory against Prosper ( 9-7-3, 2-5-2) courtesy of a 26th minute one touch finish by sophomore Chris Garza off a low centered pass from deep in the Prosper goalbox and then a 28th minute own goal by Prosper after sophomore Oscar Martinez sprinted to pressure a backpass from an Eagle defender which the Prosper keeper tried to clear out of his box only to swing and miss allowing the ball to roll into his own net. However it was Prosper’s keeper who was just as much the hero as he made save after save against an onslaught of Lions scoring attempts from all angles and distances both with and against strong 16 mph winds.
In the JV Lions match, the Lions tied Prosper’s JV 0-0 to remain unscored on in district and lock up a 6th straight JV district championship
McKinney return home next Tuesday having given up only three goals in district while scoring 39 and go for their 17th straight win this season in Senior Night against Sherman for a chance to close out the regular season at home with the first perfect district season since 2000 when the McKinney Lions were the Region I 5A Runners up and won 20 games in a row. The game will likely be the last for the Lions before squaring up with the district 18 4th place seed in the first round of playoffs, currently Frisco Liberty.
Little Elm 2, McKinney North 1: The Dogs (3-10-1, 2-6-0) fell Friday night at home.
Rowlett 3, McKinney Boyd 0: The Broncos (13-4-3, 10-1-1) lost for the first time in district play Friday night.
