AUSTIN — After finishing in the top 10 during Monday’s opening round, McKinney Boyd’s Vincent Whaley made a push Tuesday for the UIL Class 5A boys golf state championship.
Despite shooting five-under par on Tuesday at the Morris Williams Golf Course in Austin, Whaley finished tied for second at five-under par with The Woodlands’ Brad Able and Austin Lake Travis’ Klein Klotz. Belton’s Andrew Paysse won the championship, shooting one-under on Tuesday and six-under par overall.
Whaley’s five-under score on Tuesday was the second-best score on the course, with only Able’s round of six-under finishing ahead. Whaley shot a combined score of 139 over the two days in Austin.
