McKinney Boyd incoming senior Mackenna Maddox joined many of the nation’s most promising junior tennis players to compete in the premier WTT Junior Nationals, co-founded by Billie Jean King.
Maddox helped her Team Planet Texas to a runner-up finish at the WTT in San Diego, California, on August 1-4. The event featuring 16 co-ed teams from through out the U.S. The teams use the World Team Tennis format during three days of non-elimination draw competition. Team matches consist of eight events; with two sets of boys’ singles, two sets girls’ singles, one set of boys’ and girls’ doubles, and two sets of mixed doubles. The first team to reach six games wins each set. If necessary, overtime and a supertiebreaker are played to determine the outright winner of the match.
Maddox was one of three girls along with three boys representing Texas. She won 3 matches to reach the finals before losing in overtime to a local California team.
Maddox who also trains and competes for Select Tennis Academy at Stonebridge Beach and Tennis Club. Maddox commented that Billie Jean King made this the most memorable tennis tournament in her
