Early signing season is in full swing, and several McKinney Boyd girls’ athletes will be signing their letters of intent to play college athletics Wednesday at Boyd.
Head softball coach Tara Snead said Jill Nicklas will be signing with the University of Illinois, while Maddie Vonhagie will be announcing her enrollment at Houston Baptist University.
Boyd volleyball players will also be signing, with Parker Shepherd and Baylle Bingaman signing their letters Wednesday.
Shepherd accepted a volleyball scholarship from the University of Cincinnati, and Bingaman will be attending Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
Both Bingaman and Shepherd played key roles in Boyd’s 2013 season, helping the Lady Broncos secure the No. 3 seed in 10-5A and a victory over Richardson High School in the Bi-District Round. Boyd was eliminated with a four-set loss to Rockwall Heath in the Area Round last week.
On the diamond, Nicklas hit .381 with 118 at bats last year with five home runs, while Vonhagie battled through an injury-filled year in 2013, but was still able to hit .269 with one home run in 52 at bats.
The Fighting Illini finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 22-27, and a Big Ten record of 11-12. The Huskies of Houston Baptist went 15-27 in 2013, while going 6-20 in the Southland Conference.
All athletes will sign at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
