It was North Texas’ biggest night for high school musical theater departments, complete with red carpet treatment, paparazzi and dresses that out shined even those worn by Hollywood’s elite.
McKinney Boyd High School Senior, Michael Williams (right), won Best Actor for his role as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. He advances to the National High School Musical Theatre Award competition on June 25, 2012 in New York City.
Patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) High School Musical Theater Awards spotlights the achievements of high school students and their school’s musical theater programs. Thirty high schools participated in the inaugural ceremony, competing for a coveted win in one of the 15 categories: Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Musical Direction, Best Choreography, Best Orchestra, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting, Best Ensemble, Best Crew, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Featured Performer.
