Professional contract negotiators from Raytheon Company’s Network Centric Systems (NCS) conducted its High School Day of Learning at McKinney Boyd High School on November 9 and will repeat the event at McKinney North High School on Thursday, November 17. Celebrating its third successful year of local community outreach, Raytheon NCS’ High School Day of Learning provides students with the training and hands-on experience needed to be successful business negotiators.
This year’s activity pits student negotiators representing a notional cell phone maker against another team of students representing a distributor for their product. Armed with a brief case study, the Raytheon volunteers guide the student teams as they negotiate agreements ranging from sales price to payment terms and liquidated damages.
“We are blessed in McKinney to be surrounded by organizations that care about the future of our society,” says McKinney Boyd Principal Rick McDaniel. “Raytheon is a partner to MISD and their commitment to helping the students at McKinney Boyd High School is truly appreciated. We look forward to future projects with great anticipation and are so thankful to those that made ‘A Day of Learning’ possible.”
The Raytheon McKinney site is one of six participating Raytheon NCS locations, with some sites sponsoring two high schools. Participation in this year’s High School Day of Learning events will be the largest to date with approximately 300 high school students expected to attend. Sponsoring Raytheon NCS sites include Fort Wayne, Ind.; Fullerton, Calif.; Goleta, Calif.; Largo, Fla.; Marlborough, Mass.; and McKinney, Texas.
