Boyd Hosts North Texas Colorguard Association Competition

By Angie Bado, TSB Staff

McKinney Boyd High School hosted the North Texas Colorguard Associations Guard and Percussion Competition and the 2012 Cadet Championships on Saturday, March 10, 2012.

Approximately 50 schools participated in the competition, which included percussion, colorguard groups and cadet colorguards. For the middle and elementary school colorguard teams, the Cadet Championship on Saturday was the culmination of their competitive season.

“This is a huge honor for us to be selected,” commented band parent volunteer Mary Knox. Knox is in charge of publicity for the Boyd Band Booster Club.

Jason Myers, Assistant Band Director and Color Guard Instructor said that they applied to host a competition with the North Texas Colorguard Association and Boyd was one of the schools selected.

“This is a fundraiser for us,” Myers said. “The money raised from ticket sales and concessions goes straight to our band boosters.”

Boyd’s JV Guard placed first and varsity Winter Guard placed second. Boyd’s percussion group placed first.

Regional competition for percussion will be held March 23 at Lakeview Centennial High School.

SAA IW Championships for guard will be held on March 31 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Summit High School, 1071 Turner Warnell Rd Arlington TX 76001
