The Broncos will play Dallas Jesuit in the Region 2 Quarterfinals this week. Jesuit defeated Belton in three games in its Area Round series, winning 19-9 on Friday, losing 4-2 Saturday, then winning 5-4 later Saturday in a game-three thriller.
Boyd winning pitcher Blake Douglas started the game Friday by sitting down Temple’s lead off, Jordan Garcia. After allowing Mason Hesse a single, the Bronco defense answered with a 6-4-3 double play when batter number three, Tanner Dodd blooped one to short.
Bronco lead off batter Shane Sharkey set the tone by smashing the ball for a first pitch home run.
No one scored in the 2nd.
Broncos back to the top of the order in the third, with Temple pitcher Dillon Mangham walking Sharkey, and Trevor Bocian, bringing Evan Williams to the plate. Williams singles up the middle bringing in Sharkey and Bocian. Evans steals second with Temple attempting the pick off resulting in a wreck at second base, injuring Williams. According to trainers, Williams suffered a broken nose. Wesley Beeland entered the game for Williams, scoring on a Blake Douglas sac fly. Russell Williams then doubles, and is brought home with an Alex Howard triple.
The Broncos scored three in the fourth inning with David Jasinski, Shane Sharkey and Trevor Bocian runs.
Alex Bruu was brought into close in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Temple’s Jordan Garcia attempts to steal home and is tagged out at the plate by Bruu to end the game.
