Over 270 hot, turkey dinners were delivered on Thanksgiving Day to home bound seniors and others….all done by Collin County volunteers!
Reverend Brian McPherson, Executive Pastor of Adult ministries, at United Methodist Church in Allen gathered church volunteers to prepare and box up the meals; consisting of turkey, potatoes, green beans, stuffing, rolls, cranberry sauce and pie early on Thanksgiving morning.
ACO and Collin county Committee on Aging (Meals on Wheels of Collin County) identified those alone and home bound for the church. Harry Manning, retired Plano officer, and Juli Smith, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels, divided the meals by area for the Allen, McKinney, Plano police and their families to deliver. The Sheriff’s Department delivered meals in the areas outside these areas, including Wylie, Farmersville, Celina, Prosper and all rural parts of the county. The volunteers put their holidy festivities on “hold” for a couple of hours in order to make Thanksgiving a special day for others.
If “good work” can be judged by smiles and laughter; a wonderful time was had by all.
The church served additional meals in their facility following the deliveries.
