Baylor Medical Center at McKinney opened in July 2012 to serve the health care needs of families in McKinney and the surrounding communities—and it’s growing again. Here’s what’s going on:
Emergency department expansion. Through this project, the hospital will add 12 beds and double its existing space, bringing the total square footage to almost 19,000. “Based on the positive response and demand for the quality, safety and compassion that Baylor represents, we’re at a point where we have to expand our ED to meet the growing demands of the community,” says Scott Peek, president of Baylor McKinney. The expansion is scheduled to wrap up in August.
Fifth-floor expansion. By finishing the existing fifth floor, the hospital will be able to use more than 47,000 additional square feet and add 48 inpatient beds. The floor is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of this year. “Increasing our inpatient capacity not only allows us to serve more patients, it has clinical advantages as well by providing the flexibility and space for specific service lines in dedicated areas—enhancing the specialty and teamwork of the individualized care we provide,” Peek says.
