Basketball Teams Ending ’11, Gearing Up for 2012

Holiday Tournaments are winding up as the MHS and North girls sweep through their brackets undefeated. Area varsity high school basketball teams have a few days of rest before the January portion of their schedule hits. Here is a recap of recent and upcoming events.

McKinney High Boys

The Lions play host to McKinney North on Tuesday, Jan. 3. They lost 80-58 to Rowlett on Wednesday in the Plano Avery Air Invitational, with AJ Moutry scoring 22 to lead the way. Jonathan Shannon added 15. MHS had beaten Lake Highlands 83-73 in the tournament opener.

McKinney High Girls

The Lionettes travel to McKinney North on Tuesday, Jan. 3. They won the Prosper Holiday Showcase after holding off Keller Timber Creek 49-47 on Thursday night after beating The Colony 35-33 on Wednesday. Mariah Mitchell scored 18 and Brianna Blackburn 10 in the win over Keller Timber Creek.

McKinney North Boys

The Bulldogs travel to McKinney High on Tuesday, Jan. 3. They recently competed in the Sherman Holiday Invitational, but no information has been submitted to TSB about that event.

McKinney North Girls

The Lady Bulldogs play host to MHS on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Lady Bulldogs recently won the Sherman Holiday Invitational after beating host Sherman 54-41 on Thursday night. Alexis Mason scored a team-high 28 points for North and Mikaehla Connnor added 12. The Lady Bulldogs had beaten Plano 64-54 on Wednesday.

McKinney Boyd Boys

The Broncos play host to Garland on Tuesday night, Jan. 3. Boyd finished off The Colony Cougar Classic with a 63-46 win over Flower Mound and a 51-41 loss to Hebron on Wednesday. Juwan Sykes led the win over Flower Mound with 15 points while Martez Butler added 13 and Faisal Mansour 10.

McKinney Boyd Girls

The Lady Broncos also play host to Garland on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Boyd lost a couple Wednesday to finish the Mansfield Rotary Invitational, falling to Ursuline 53-46 and to Grapevine 47-45. In the Grapevine loss, Haley Carruthers led the way with 16 and Rochelle Vasquez added 15.

McKinney Christian Boys

The Mustangs finish play today in the MCA Tournament, where they have lost to Chant, 60-41, and defeated Paris Home School 60-38. In the win over Paris, Zach Bollinger led the way with 18 points and Kaelen Malone added 15. Robert Kelley scored 10. After today, MCA next hosts Rockwall Heritage Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

McKinney Christian Girls

The Lady Mustangs wrap up play today in the MCA Tournament.
