The McKinney Boyd girls basketball squad couldn’t carry over its momentum from the Frisco ISD Tournament Tuesday night during a 40-25 home loss to Hebron.
The Lady Broncos (4-4) and Hebron played a close first half. The largest lead either team could compile was two points and the lead changed hands six times, with Hebron leading 19-18 after 16 minutes.
Boyd was able to utilize a man-to-man defense to take away the outside shot from Hebron in the first half, with junior Jordan Brightwell converging in the paint and contesting shots from the lane.
But Hebron’s shots would begin to fall in the second half, as the Lady Hawks scored 21 points in the second half, eight of which came in the third stanza.
While Hebron’s offense caught fire, Boyd mustered seven points and just two points in the fourth quarter as they were pressured by Hebron’s half-court defense, trapping Boyd and keeping the ball on the perimeter.
Sophomore Jordynn Hernandez led Boyd with six points, while seniors Khalia Stampley and KeTohn Paul each had five points.
Boyd head coach Rochelle Vaughn was not available for comments following the game.
The Lady Broncos will return to the court Monday when they travel to take on Rowlett at 6 p.m. before returning to Boyd Nov. 26 to face Celina at 6:30 p.m.
