Basketball Scoreboard: North’s Mason Breaks School Scoring Record; MHS Boys Cruise Past Denton Ryan

For the 5A boys teams, non-district is wrapping up as both Boyd and MHS will open up next Friday night. The Lady Broncos and Lionettes tipped off their district seasons with losses, while North’s Alexis Mason broke the school’s career scoring record in a road win at Greenville. Below are recaps of Friday’s action on the hardwood:

McKinney Boyd Boys:

The Broncos snapped their nine-game winning streak on Friday night, losing on the road at TABC No. 8 Hebron 51-43. Boyd was outscored 32-17 in the second and third quarters.

Boyd dropped to 16-3 on the season with the loss.

Mikel Parish led the Broncos with 15 points while Faisal Mansour scored 12 points. Michael Grant finished with seven points.

Boyd will open up its district season at home next Friday night versus Allen, beginning at 7:30 p.m.



McKinney High Boys:

The Lions used a 28-point third quarter to cruise to a 73-36 victory at home versus Denton Ryan. After being outscored 8-7 in the first quarter and leading 24-20 at the half, the Lions outscored Denton Ryan 49-16 in the second half to improve to 14-5 on the season.

Raynell Denny led all scorers with 18 points, while Preston Smith had 15 points and Connor Fuentes finished with 13 points. Ten players scored at least two points for McKinney.

McKinney will close out its non-district season on Tuesday night when the Lions travel to Coppell, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

McKiney High Girls:

McKinney dropped its District 10-5A opener on the road at Plano 49-28 to drop to 0-1 in district and 14-11 on the season. The Lionettes were outscored 15-2 in the first quarter and only scored in double digits in the fourth quarter as a team.

Mariah Mitchell was the Lionettes leading scorer with 16 points. Only Jazsmin Nelson, Krissy Fontillas, and Nicole Quincy scored the other 12 points for McKinney.

McKinney will continue its three-game Plano road trip on Tuesday night when the Lionettes travel to Plano East, who lost its district opener versus Allen.

McKinney North Boys:

The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 in District 13-4A by defeating Greenville on the road 75-71 on Friday night.

Jola Otubu led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points, while Steele Douglas finished with 15 points. Julion Pearre had 12 points, Kody Wilson had 11 points, and Bryson Brown finished with 10 points.

North improved to 10-9 overall and will travel to Wylie East on Tuesday night, beginning at 8 p.m.

McKinney North Girls:

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Greenville 69-48 to improve to 5-0 in District 13-4A. North has now won 13 straight games and is 20-3 overall this season.

Senior Alexis Mason scored 10 points on the night and her 1,480th of her career, taking over the career scoring record for the Lady Bulldogs. She surpassed Aundrea Gamble who finished with 1,479.

Chanterria Jackson had a career-high 24 points to lead all scorers, while KK Connor had 12 points and Amy Kleynhans had 10 points.

North will be at Wylie East on Tuesday night, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
