Playoff chases are heating up for all six MISD basketball teams, but for the North girls team the postseason is no longer just a dream as the Lady Bulldogs clinched the District 13-4A championship with a road win at Wylie. Below are recaps of each game and full standings for 13-4A and 10-5A:
McKinney Boyd Boys:
The Broncos earned their first District 10-5A win of the season on Friday night, defeating Plano 58-51 at home to improve to 1-4 in district play and 17-7 overall. Plano fell to 1-4 with the loss.
Boyd used a 15-7 second quarter to take a six point lead into halftime, where the Broncos were able to hold off a late Plano comeback to win its first game since Dec. 29.
Mikel Parish scored a team-high 18 points, the only player in double figures for the Broncos. Nine players total scored at least one point for Boyd.
Boyd will travel to Allen (4-1) on Tuesday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
McKinney Boyd Girls:
The Lady Broncos couldn’t keep pace with Plano on Friday night, losing 54-33 to fall to 2-5 in District 10-5A play and 12-17 overall. Plano improved to 7-0 with the victory.
Haley Carruthers led Boyd in scoring with 10 points, the lone Lady Bronco in double figures in scoring.
Boyd will travel to Allen (1-6) on Tuesday night, beginning at 6 p.m.
McKinney North Girls:
The Lady Bulldogs captured the District 13-4A title by defeating Wylie 57-41 on the road Friday night. North improved to 11-0 in 13-4A and 26-3 overall, extending their winning streak to 19 games in the process.
North got off to a hot start by taking at 34-17 lead into halftime, forcing the Lady Pirates to play catch up all night long. Alexis Mason led all scorers with 22 points while Chanterria Jackson had 18 points.
North will host Greenville (2-9) on Tuesday night, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
McKinney North Boys:
The Bulldogs suffered a 54-49 road loss at Wylie on Friday night, dropping to 6-3 in District 13-4A play and 14-11 overall. Wylie improved to 5-4 in 13-4A with the win.
Despite outscoring the Pirated 20-14 in the third quarter to tie the game at 40-40 entering the final quarter, Wylie was able to stave off the stingy Bulldogs to earn a huge district victory.
Collin Curran led the Bulldogs with 19 points while Jola Otubu contributed with 13. Steele Douglas finished with 12 points.
North will host Greenville (3-6) on Tuesday night, beginning at 8 p.m.
