As district play kicked off for the 5A boys in McKinney, the Lady Bulldogs were wrapping up their first round of district play while the Bulldogs were looking to win their fourth straight district game. Also, the Lionettes were faced with a tough road test at one of the state’s top ranked teams. Recaps of each game are below:
McKinney High Boys:
The Lions lost a high-scoring affair at Plano West on Friday night, falling 91-80 to drop their District 10-5A opener. McKinney dropped to 0-1 in 10-5A and 15-6 overall.
McKinney could not overcome a nine-point deficit after the first quarter, despite 29 points from Red Shannon. Raynell Denny finished with 18 points in the loss, while Connor Fuentes had 15 points and Remington Edwards had 10 points. Plano West’s D.J. Hogg led all scorers with 31 points.
MHS will host Allen (1-0) on Tuesday night in the Lions district home opener, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
McKinney High Girls:
The Lionettes lost to Plano West 61-40 on the road to drop to 1-2 in District 10-5A and 15-12 overall. Plano West entered the game at No. 3 on the TABC Top 25 rankings.
McKinney was held scoreless in the second quarter and was outscored 36-9 after one half of play. Mariah Mitchell led all scorers for the Lionettes with 21 points, while 10 players scored at least two points for the Lady Wolves.
MHS will host Allen (1-2) on Tuesday night, beginning at 6 p.m.
McKinney North Boys:
The Bulldogs topped Denison at home 64-54 to win their fourth consecutive District 13-4A game and improve to 4-1 in 13-4A play and 12-9 overall.
After trailing 16-14 at the end of the first quarter, North outscored Denison 50-38 to cruise to a 10-point home win. Julion Pearre led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points, while Maliek Golden had 11 points of his own. Nine players scored at least two points for North.
North will host Sherman (2-2) on Tuesday night, beginning at 8 p.m.
McKinney North Girls:
The Lady Bulldogs completed their first round of District 13-4A play with an easy 78-18 victory at home versus Denison. The win moved North to 7-0 in 13-4A and 22-3 overall. North entered the game ranked No. 9 in the TABC Top 25 rankings.
North jumped out to a 24-4 first half lead and took a 40-8 halftime lead, and was able to hold Denison to just two third quarter points.
Amy Kleynhans led all scorers for North with 15 points, while Mikaehla Connor and Chanterria Jackson each had 14 points. Alexis Mason finished with 13 points.
North will host Sherman on Tuesday night, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
