Basketball Scoreboard: Local Girls Teams Shine Tuesday Night

MHS vs. heritage -1XIt was quite a night for MISD girls basketball teams as McKinney High beat rival Allen, McKinney North improved to 8-0 in its district, and McKinney Boyd won its first district game.

Host Allen High School defeated McKinney High 66-49 after jumping to a 34-23 halftime lead and maintaining it in the second half. Remington Edwards led MHS with 14 points. Preston Smith added 10.

McKinney North defeated Sherman 87-62 on the road Tuesday night behind Jola Otubu’s game-high 28 points. Julion Pearre added 13 and Collin Curran 11. The Bulldogs raced to a 49-27 halftime lead and never looked back. North is 6-0 in district play.

Plano East knocked off visiting McKinney Boyd 64-32. The Broncos, 0-2 in District 10-5A, got a team-high 10 points from Colton Head.


McKinney High defeated host Allen 56-41 on Tuesday night to even its District 10-5A record to 2-2. The Lionettes’ Mariah Mitchell led all scorers with 24 points. Jazsmin Nelson added 11.

McKinney North beat Sherman 64-36 on the road to improve to 8-0 in the district. A close 16-12 game after one quarter became lopsided when the Lady Dawgs outscored their hosts 18-6 in the second quarter. Mikayla Foy led North with 12 points.

McKinney Boyd beat Plano East 65-52 for its first district victory. Though leading 36-22 at halftime, the Lady Broncos saw East go on a third-quarter run that left Boyd ahead merely 47-42 going into the fourth quarter. Haley Carruthers led all scorers with 23 points.
