Basketball Scoreboard: Lions’ Moutry Scores 54 in Win to Highlight Jan. 6 Games

McKinney High’s AJ Moutry scored 54 points Friday night during the Lions’ 97-94 double-overtime victory over Richardson Pearce. The Lions’ boys and girls teams both beat Pearce to lead area performances.


McKinney High 97, Richardson Pearce 94 (2 OT): Hoops junkies would have loved AJ Moutry’s offensive explosion — 54 points scored — on Friday night. The Lions improved to 3-0 in District 10-4A competition with the win on the road. Jonathan Shannon added 16 and Raynell Denny 12. The game was tied 75-all at the end of regulation. MHS hosts Wylie East on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

McKinney Christian 58, Richardson Canyon Creek Christian 47: The Mustangs got balanced scoring from Kaelen Malone (18), Zach Bollinger (16) and Robert Kelley (10) to win on Friday. MCA travels to Garland Christian on Tuesday night, Jan. 10.

Garland Naaman Forest 41, McKinney Boyd 30: The Broncos followed up Tuesday’s first district win, 54-37 over Garland, with an 11-point loss on Friday. Naaman Forest jumped to a 17-5 first-quarter lead and still led 36-16 going into the fourth quarter. Juwan Sykes scored eight points to lead Boyd. The Broncos travel to North Garland on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Highland Park 83, McKinney North 58: Collin Curran scored 22 points for North in Friday’s loss to the Scots. David Allen of HP led all scorers with 32. The Bulldogs led 17-12 after the first quarter but HP rallied to take a 36-29 halftime lead, then dominated the third quarter. North travels to Rockwall on Tuesday, Jan. 10.


McKinney High 58, Richardson Pearce 39: The Lionettes’ Breana Smalls led all scorers with 20 points. Jazsmin Nelson added 10. MHS led 28-21 at the half and pulled away. The Lionettes travel to Wylie East on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

McKinney Christian 40, Richardson Canyon Creek Christian 17: The Lady Mustangs’ Kaitlyn McAdams led all scorers with 21 points, outscoring the opponent all by herself. MCA travels to Garland Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Garland Naaman Forest 53, McKinney Boyd 32: Rochelle Vasquez scored 15 to lead the Lady Broncos, who fell behind 15-5 after the first quarter and never recovered. The Lady Broncos travel to North Garland on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Highland Park 56, McKinney North 44: The Lady Bulldogs lost their first district contest to a quality Scots team. Mikaehla Connor led North with 14 points. HP led 30-24 at halftime and maintained it in the second half.
