By Mike Bruu, TSB Sports Editor

MISD basketball was jam packed on Friday night as many teams tried to keep their playoff hopes alive, while some were looking to secure playoff seeding. Below are recaps of each game and the updated standings for 10-5A and 13-4A:

McKinney Boyd Boys:

The Broncos couldn’t overcome a 15-6 deficit in the first quarter, falling 60-47 to the visiting Plano East Panthers on Friday night. Boyd dropped to 1-6 in District 10-5A and 17-9 overall. TABC No. 4 Plano East improved to 7-0 in 10-5A and 24-4 overall.

Michael Grant led all scorers with 18 points for the Broncos while Mikel Parish finished with eight points.

Boyd will face crosstown rival McKinney on Tuesday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

McKinney High Boys:

The Lions couldn’t overcome the struggles in the first and third quarter as Allen defeated McKinney 73-61. McKinney dropped to 1-6 in 10-5A and 16-11 overall, while Allen improved to 6-1 in 10-5A.

Despite both teams scoring 21 and 16 points in the second and fourth quarters, respectively, the Eagles outscored the Lions 36-24 in the first and third quarters to clinch a playoff spot on Friday night.

Red Shannon finished with 13 points for the Lions while Jontrell Rocquemore had 12 points. Connor Fuentes chipped in 10 as well. Jackie Davis finished with 27 points for Allen.

McKinney will host crosstown rival McKinney Boyd on Tuesday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

McKinney High Girls:

The Lionettes defeated Allen 30-28 to win their third district game of the season and move into sole possession of fourth place in District 10-5A. McKinney improved to 3-6 in 10-5A and 17-16 overall. Allen dropped to 2-7 in 10-5A.

In a rather sloppy affair, the Lionettes outscored the Lady Eagles 14-3 in the second quarter to take a 22-14 lead into halftime. The lead would hold up for McKinney despite being outscored 14-8 in the final two quarters combined.

Mariah Mitchell scored 22 of the team’s 30 points for McKinney, while Jazsmin Nelson had the remaining eight points. Ericka May led Allen with 12 points.

McKinney hosts crosstown rival McKinney Boyd on Tuesday night, beginning at 6 p.m. MHS can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Lady Broncos.
