On a busy Friday night in MISD basketball, the Boyd and North girls team won big home games, while the North boys lost a overtime thriller at Frisco and MHS came up just short at Richardson Pearce.
McKinney Boyd Girls:
The Lady Broncos defeated Carrollton Ranchview 66-45 at home on Friday night. Boyd improved to 9-9 on the season while Ranchview dropped to 6-10.
Boyd’s Julia Hendrieth led all scorers with 23 points, while Haley Carruthers has 16 points for the Lady Broncos. Boyd’s 42-point first half was enough to win its ninth game of the season and get back to .500 on the year.
The Lady Broncos will face Flower Mound Marcus at home on Tuesday night. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
McKinney High Boys:
Richardson Pearce defeated the Lions 59-56 at home, giving MHS its fourth loss of the season. The Lions are now 11-4 on the year while Pearce improved to 5-7.
Remington Edwards led the Lions in scoring with 13 points, while Raynell Denny and Darrin Donaldson each had 12 points. Red Shannon finished with 11 points.
The Lions are off until Dec. 28 when they will compete in the Avery Air Invitational at McKinney Boyd.
The Bulldogs lost an overtime thriller at Frisco 84-81 to drop their fourth game of the season. North fell to 8-4 on the season while Frisco improved to 8-3.
North scored 33 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 73 heading into the overtime quarter, but Frisco outscored the Bulldogs 11-8 in the quarter to win the game by three.
Julion Pearre led all scorers with 22 points for the Bulldogs, while Collin Curran finished with 17 points and Bryson Brown had 14 points.
North kicks off District 13-4A play when the Bulldogs travel to Lovejoy next Tuesday night. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
North crushed Royse City 82-34 to win its second straight District 13-4A game to begin the season. The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in district with the win, while Royse City fell to 1-1.
Alexis Mason led all scorers with 23 points, while Mikaehla Connor had 18 points and Amy Kleynhans finished with 13 points. Eight players scored points for the Lady Bulldogs in the victory.
North will travel to Lovejoy on Tuesday night to face the 2-0 Lady Leopards. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
