McKinney High’s boys and girls teams take down Pearce; North’s teams both lose heartbreakers to Highland Park.
McKinney High 63, Richardson Pearce 53: The Lions, playing without injured star guard AJ Moutry, trailed 29-27 at halftime but rallied to win. Jonathan Shannon led the way with 24 points. MHS held Pearce to nine points in the third quarter to take a 41-38 lead into the final eight minutes. MHS, 8-2 and alone in second place in District 10-4A, travels to Wylie East on Friday night.
Highland Park 48, McKinney North 45 (2 OT): The Bulldogs fell into third place in District 10-4A after losing a heartbreaker on the road to the 10-0 Scots, who lead the district. Collin Curran led North (7-3 in district) with 11 points. North plays host to Rockwall on Friday. Neither team scored in the first overtime.
Garland Naaman Forest 47, McKinney Boyd 35: The Broncos fell to 3-7 in District 10-5A with four games to play. Faisal Monsour scored 8 to lead Boyd. The Broncos managed only five and four points in the first two quarters to trail 23-9 at the half. Boyd hosts North Garland on Friday.
Bullard Brook Hill 59, McKinney Christian 36: MCA’s Kaelen Malone led all scorers, with 31 of the Mustangs’ 36 points. MCA fell behind 22-5 after the first quarter and couldn’t recover. MCA hosts Dallas Lutheran on Friday night.
McKinney High 50, Richardson Pearce 24: The Lionettes’ Breana Smalls led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points on the road Tuesday. MHS’ suffocating defense didn’t allow more than seven points in any quarter. MHS jumped ahead 15-6 after one and 34-11 at the half. The Lionettes, 7-5 and in fifth place in 10-4A, are still battling to make the playoffs. They play host to Wylie East on Friday.
McKinney Boyd 46, Garland Naaman Forest 44: The Lady Broncos got 16 points from Julia Hendrieth and 14 from Haley Carruthers as they held off Naaman Forest on the road Tuesday. Boyd, at 5-7 in 10-5A, remains a game out of playoff contention and in fifth place with two games remaining. Boyd hosts North Garland on Friday night.
McKinney Christian 39, Bullard Brook Hill 29: The Lady Mustangs got 19 points from Kaitlyn McAdams and 11 from Julie James as they won on the road Tuesday. With only one loss in district, MCA next hosts unbeaten Dallas Lutheran on Friday night.
Highland Park 49, McKinney North 47: The Lady Bulldogs led 28-19 at halftime but got passed by in the second half. Highland Park outscored North 15-8 in the third quarter to cut it to 36-34 going into the fourth quarter. Libby Ethington made two free throws with 8 seconds left to win it for HP. Chanterria Jackson led North with 14 points while Alexis Mason added 11. Both HP and North now stand at 8-4 in District 10-4A (along with Wylie) behind leader Rockwall (11-1). North travels to Rockwall on Friday.
