Baseball & Softball Playoff Scoreboard: Boyd Softball Loses In 9, MHS Softball Cruises, North Baseball Drops Heartbreaker

By Mike Bruu, TSB Sports Writer

Softball:

Every team hopes to get hot right before the postseason so that they can ride the momentum into a long postseason run. For McKinney High, the time couldn’t have been any better to start playing its best softball of the year.

The Lionettes defeated Hillcrest in game one of the best-of-three series 17-0 at Frisco Heritage High School on Thursday night. Hillcrest was only able to muster one hit all game, while MHS slapped the ball around for a total of 25 hits. E. Marrs tripled twice for the Lionettes, while Krissy Fontillas, April Rousey, and Mika Stutts all doubled once. Game two is set for 8:30 p.m. back at Frisco Heritage.

In front of a max capacity crowd at Bronco Field on Thursday night, McKinney Boyd dropped game one of its best-of-three series versus Mesquite 2-0 in nine innings. Erin Riding was the losing pitcher in the game for the Lady Broncos, despite going all nine innings in her start. Both teams had opportunities throughout the game to produce runs, but it wasn’t until the top of the ninth that Mesquite was finally able to put a crooked number on the scoreboard. Mesquite’s Victoria Bice was the winning pitcher of record. The two teams will meet up for game two Friday night at the Mesquite Girls Softball Complex. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Baseball:

Despite facing one of the toughest ball clubs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, McKinney North battled it out with Frisco Wakeland on Thursday night at Carrollton’s Kelly Field, only to lose by a score of 2-1. Both teams committed one error in the field while sprinkling five hits each over the seven innings. The Bulldogs will hope for a repeat effort on Friday night while hoping for a little different result. Game two of the best-of-three series is set for first pitch at 7:30 p.m., back at Kelly Field.
