Baseball Season Under Way as McKinney Tournament Highlights the Week

McKinney Boyd is off to a 2-0 start under coach Brandon Milam in the 2012 season after beating Fort Worth Southwest 8-2 on Monday and Plano West 12-2 on Thursday at the McKinney Tournament.

In the Broncos’ victory over Plano West, Zach Hutcherson got the win on the mound, while Cameron Sweeney doubled.

Boyd is scheduled to play Texarkana Texas at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the Broncos play Allen at 10 a.m. and McKinney High at 7 p.m.

McKinney High is also competing in the McKinney Tournament. The Lions’ season opener was Thursday as they fell to Allen 6-2. Brad Vassar took the loss on the hill for MHS while Allen’s Troy Chezem got the win. Cole Carter doubled for Allen.

On Friday, MHS is scheduled to play Plano West at 10 a.m. and Rowlett at 1 p.m. On Saturday, MHS is scheduled to play McKinney Boyd at 7 p.m.

McKinney North is competing in the Carrollton Newman Smith/Creekview Tournament. The Bulldogs dominated Newman Smith in Thursday’s opener with an 11-0 victory. Will Cooper was the winning pitcher. Montana Sadler, Will Shumate and Anthony Herrera all doubled for North.

On Friday, North is scheduled to play Carrollton Creekview at 4 p.m. and Irving MacArthur at 6:30. On Saturday, the championship game is scheduled for noon.
