For McKinney North, district play could not have gotten off to a better start, but for District 10-5A rivals Boyd and MHS, both are looking at 0-2 district starts after losses on Friday night. Below are scores and recaps for the games from Friday night on the diamond:
The Bulldogs (3-0) shut out Lovejoy 6-0 on the road Friday night in District 13-4A action. Julian Pope was the winning pitcher on the mound for North. Logan Michaels was the losing pitcher for Lovejoy.
Anthony Herrera homered in the game for North while Preston Speers had one triple at the plate. Travis Scalf and Pope each doubled once in the game, two of the Bulldogs’ 10 hits in the game.
North will face Carrollton Newman Smith on Saturday afternoon at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark, beginning at noon.
The Broncos (0-2) fell 9-3 at Plano West on Friday night in the second of three meetings with the Wolves in 10-5A play. Carson Chilton was the losing pitcher for the Broncos, while Preston Betz earned the win for Plano West.
Boyd committed five errors in the field and only had five base hits in the game, losing the first two games of district play and two of the first three games versus the Wolves this season.
Boyd will travel to Plano (2-0) on Tuesday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
