McKinney North played its biggest game of the season on Friday night and came away with a win and a berth to the UIL playoffs. The Bulldogs defeated Wylie 4-1 on the road to lock up the number four seed in District 10-4A. Will Cooper was the winning pitcher for North, while Preston Speers doubled and Heath Beasley tripled at the plate for the Bulldogs. After a crushing two-game losing streak entering Friday night, the Bulldogs were locked with Wylie East for the final spot in district. But after Wylie East lost 14-0 to Rockwall-Heath, all North needed was a victory over Wylie to advance onto postseason baseball, and the Bulldogs were able to do just that. North finished the district season 7-7 and will face District 9-4A champion Frisco Wakeland in the bi-district round beginning next week. Game times and dates will be announced soon.
McKinney Boyd finished the District 10-5A season on a high note by knocking off South Garland 11-1 on the road Friday night. Tyler Keegan was the winning pitcher for the Broncos. Will Hollis doubled for Boyd in the game, while Daniel Cortines joined in on the fun with a triple of his own. The Broncos locked down the No. 2 two seed out of 10-5A with a mark of 11-3. Boyd will face either Lake Highlands or W.T. White out of District 9-5A in the bi-district round of the UIL state playoffs. Both are tied at 11-3 and split the season series so a tiebreaker will likely take place this weekend.
McKinney High lost its season finale to Highland Park 6-4 on Senior Night at Al Alford Field. Marshall Agan was the losing pitcher for the Lions. Brad Vassar had the only double in the game for MHS. The Lions could not overcome committing three errors in the field and finished the 2012 district season 4-10, good for seventh place in District 10-4A.
